Challenging, Fun and Safe

This is our core values that navigates us when we design the Nøsen Hundreds Ultramarathon. Our goal is to create a race that you will remember for the rest of your life by offering you a challenging event without compromissing the safety. We also want you to have great time with us at Nøsen and we do so by engaging volunteers that will keep your energy up before, during and after the race.

Running Through Time

Nøsen Hundreds takes place in Valdres, Norway. Valdres covers more than 5400 km² and you will get a taste of one of the most beautiful and historic parts of it.

Nøsen lies within the geographic area of Stølsvidda, which is the name for the mountain area between Valdres and Hemsedal. Stølsvidda has traditional agricultural heritage all the way back to the stone age and people have been traveling on these trails for hundreds years.

The most active era for Stølsvidda was the 17th and 18th century and the trails were the main life lines for the people that lived a good but also a though life. Travel back in time earning every meter covered and chase intense feelings of mastery overcoming the struggle of life when crossing the finish line.

The Nøsen Hundreds 50 km is the younger brother of the full 100 km, but it is by no means a walk in the park. The 50 km has more altitude/km, an exclusive mountain traverse and a total of 1900 vertical meters!

The first part takes you through a mix of gravel road and flowy trails. Enjoy the beautiful view at Strø and get ready to climb! In just 3.2 km you’ll climb 550 vertical meters to reach Nøsakampen. Here starts the routes main challenge; the 5 km Gilafjellet traverse. When you reach the north peak; Kruk, you’ll start descending and meeting 100 km runners going the opposite way, remember to give them some cheers and high fives!

Syndinstøga at 27 km will be the routes checkpoint. Here you’ll get access to your dropbag, food, drink and sanitary facilities. The last half is less challenging, but remember to save energy for the 8 km trail traversing Grønsenknippa. From here you can soon look down to the finish at Nøsen!

The route will not be marked physically, apart from the permanent markings along the paths. Each athlete must navigate such that the route is followed. As navigation aids, each athlete must bring a handhold GPS-unit (a watch-type is allowed) and a physical compass.

This race is part of the Golden Trail Nordic Series. What this means is:

  • Participating in this race will qualify you for getting a ticket to the Golden Trail Nordics Final at Hemsedal/Fyri September

  • The podium winners of the race (Top 3 women/men) will receive participation in the Nordics Final covered (bib / travel expenses / lodging) by Salomon.

  • Read all about the Golden Trail Nordic Series here.

We created this distance to be able to share this wonderful experience with  a broader crowd and recruit athletes to ultra trail running. It’s also a great opportunity for the support crew of the ultra runners to compete during the race weekend.

The route consists of fast gravel sections, rolling terrain  and stunning views of Jontunheimen. But do not be fooled by the “short” distance. This 21,8km route has a couple of steep climbs and fast sections that can really build lactic acid.

The route takes you around and over an iconic hill called Grønnsenknippa. You will be running along the west side of the hillside on some nice trails before you hit a 3km gravel road section that takes you to a trail which marks the start of the big climb to Grønsennknippa at 1368 masl. In this intersection at 11km, there will be an aid-station with water, sports drink and light snacks.

The next 10km will be a traverse of the mountain ridge where you will pass Grønsennknippa, Svenskeknippa and finally Noseknippa. The last leg will be a quite steep decent to the final 1,5km sprint along Panoramaveien before crossing the finish line at Nøsen Yoga Hotel.

The route will be physically marked, so no need for a GPX-file!
